Tangentarc is written, designed and developed by Caspar Fairhall. Caspar is a visual artist working across various media, from painting to video and interactive art.

His work is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, Chamber of Commerce and Industry and BankWest. Galerie Düsseldorf have represented him since 1999.

Caspar has another life as a web and graphic designer, and not content with being two or three types of nerd rolled into one, he’s now trying desperately to be a maths nerd as well. “It’s like swimming against a terrible tide, where that tide consists of my natural abilities (or lack thereof, in this instance),” he remarked recently. It remains to be seen if that tide will change direction.

Technical details

This site is built using WordPress, using an original theme with various customisations. It’s hosted on a fast Linux server running Apache and MySQL at Digitalis, Caspar’s favourite small web hosting firm.

But… why?

Why a maths blog? It‘s all rather self-indulgent really: I want to revise certain aspects of basic maths, and since the best way to learn something deeply is to write about it or teach other people, I’ve started this journal. If others can gain something along the way, that’s ideal. Most of the material will either be at high school level or not much above to begin with, since I’ve got a lot of revision to do; I’m also a rather untalented mathematician, so the explanations will be pitched at novices.

The focus will be on geometry, especially as it applies to computer graphics. After that I’ll explore less familiar areas. I’ll occasionally veer off into related areas such as analytic geometry, vectors and matrices, even topology.
